A mix of Hitchcockian suspense, Agatha Christie plotting, and Greek tragedy."--Entertainment Weekly The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman's act of violence against her husband--and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive. Alicia Berenson's life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London's most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word. Alicia's refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London. Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. A true thriller in that the psychologist ends up being the mysterious man that propelled the wife to murder Gabriel, her husband. Why? Because Gabriel was sleeping with his wife.
This one is hyped up and while it was good, I think I was expecting more. Don’t get me wrong, still a great book and worth the read!! Very creative writing for sure!!
This book surprised me. I was eager to get to the end, but it did not end as expected. The character's description was so vivid that I could visualize the face. It was such a great read.
This book really drew me in with its intriguing layers and how Michaelides skillfully wove them into the story. I loved the way Greek tragedy was incorporated throughout—it added so much depth and made the narrative richer. The only downside for me was the ending, which felt a bit hard to believe. That’s the only reason I didn't give it a full five stars.
Sooo good!
