What in the world did I just read?! I picked this up for the Mafia Romance Readathon, but wasn’t able to get much reading done that weekend but I was interested enough to keep going. So I picked it back up the other day and wow! I am not sure what I was expecting from a mafia romance book, since this was my first one. But wow! I’m hooked!
I think this was a good introduction because the heroine wasn’t the stereotype I know is common in mafia romance: betrothed before they’re 18 for alliances, married once they come of age, and oh they have to be virgins. I’ll have to see how much I can handle those when I dig deeper into mafia romance.
My thoughts are all over the place bc I just finished it and loved it.
- Natalie is a relatable heroine with a broken heart from her fiancé having been missing 5 years. I’ll be honest I had to suspend my disbelief for her to fall in love with a mobster (even she thinks she’s crazy). I found her friendship with Sloane to be good comic relief.
- Kage is a hot ass beefcake and an all-or-nothing attitude which is pretty sweet. He pretty well-rounded, he is intelligent and sensitive and reads ROMANCE BOOKS. I’ve been told he is on the “nicer” side of mafia heros.. but I am here for darker as well!
- I enjoyed the plot surrounding the Russians vs the Irish. I love the rush of adrenaline in the fight scenes and Geissinger set up the surprising moments up perfectly!
- And what happened with Natalie’s missing fiancé? HOLY MOLY I was not prepared for how that unraveled and I LOVED IT!
I will continue in the series and I recommend t those looking to get into dark and mafia romance. Please be warned it is quite graphic.. I mean it’s a Mafia Romance.
