Ruthless Creatures is a mafia romance that focuses on desire rather than criminal politics. J.T. Geissinger keeps the underworld conflict behind the smut. Natalie and Kage burned up every page they were on together. I loved it. Natalie Peterson has spent five years waiting for answers after her fiancé disappeared shortly before their wedding. Her grief has placed her life on pause. A mysterious stranger moves into the house next door and disrupts the careful routine she has built. Kage is wealthy, intimidating, secretive, and captivated by her. Natalie knows he carries danger with him. Resistance becomes difficult once his protective attention turns into scorching chemistry. Instant attraction rarely convinces me, but Natalie’s reaction required no explanation. I understood her completely. Kage takes control without making her beg for care, attention, or reassurance. His instinct to provide for her made their romance feel indulgent. His confidence in the bedroom had both me and Natalie falling quickly. Geissinger writes sex scenes with confidence, heat, and playful intensity. Kage knows exactly what Natalie needs and has no hesitation about giving it to her. Kage whispering Russian during their bedroom scenes melted me. The mafia storyline occasionally reached dramatic heights that tested my patience. References to Kage being at war made me roll my eyes. The romance remained the main focus which made every threat, secret, and questionable declaration of war tolerable. Pick up Ruthless Creatures if you like possessive heroes, emotionally vulnerable heroines, excellent banter, and some of the hottest scenes you will ever read. J.T. Geissinger has secured a place on my future reading list. Carnal Urges is already calling my name.
