First, running from home and staying away for ten years AND giving up your magic is an absolute horrible premise for a woman with a broken heart. Like, do better. Talk about making the MFC entire identity be about a guy instead of all the other amazing things in her life.
Second, the MFC’s best friend ALSO gets her heart broken by the same dude. Is the author even a woman?!?!
Third, the story plot otherwise was good. I liked the magic, the mom calling out the dad for the patriarchal bullshit, the MFC falling for a kick ass woman. How do you get so much wrong and so much right in one book 🤣 IDK if I will read book two. Probably will though, I seem to be incapable of finishing series.
Fun magic system, cute book. Predictable revelations for character development but enjoyable anyway. Plus, yanno, gotta love a queer romance.
Such a wonderful read, its as if Hocus Pocus and Sabrina came together and was made with the Sapphic edge we all needed!
I truly felt committed to the competition feel the girls fell in for the plot. I like all that animosity targeted towards the ex, and something about falling for your old best friend.. sigh.. Love that!
The fantasy aspect was easy to understand so it calls for a quick read and I never felt lost or trying to wonder the hierarchy of things.
I could have used a bit more romance to it, but it may just be me, I like the longing, the sensual.
