I absolutely adored this story more than I thought I initially would! It’s far from perfect, that’s for sure, and I still have my complaints, but let’s start with what I loved. First of all, I am a huge fan of Ursula as Vanessa in general. To be able to have a book where she was her most of it made me so happy. I feel like we dug deeper into Ursula as a character and how evil she really could be when she’s driven past her pushing point. Carlotta and Grimsby were probably my favorite characters in the book. Their roles being made a little bigger, and them being more heroic was actually so cool. I also loved the incorporation of mythology into this. (Really ties together the whole Ariel and Hercules are cousins theory haha)! However, Ariel’s character seemed to flip flop between who we know from the Disney movie and what the author created in their mind. Her character didn’t make sense a lot of the time and I just felt confused about her. Also, can we address how Sebastian says Ariel’s mom couldn’t carry a tune but she could. I’ve seen Little Mermaid III. She was the whole reason music was banned, duh! 😤😉 And then, I’ve noticed this in the past three books she wrote for this series, but Liz Braswell doesn’t always write the best endings. They sometimes feel too rushed or just unsatisfying. Part of Your World was another unsatisfying ending. I also think Triton would have let Ariel be with Eric. She proved her maturity, Eric proved his love for her, they both saved him, just like the end of the movie by the way, so why is he still set in his ways about it. None of it makes sense to me. All in all, I really do enjoy this book. It was a fun one! This is one out of the Twisted Tales series that I do recommend reading!

This was such an amazing book until the end. I was very disappointing I just felt like it didn't live up to its full potential that I got from reading this book. Would have been 5 stars but can't get over the ending felt like they could have done so much more.

I wished I enjoyed this book more than I was hoping but unfortunately it was a let down. The book was flat, lackluster, repetitive, and the romance felt a bit forced. I think part of my issue is I have not been a fan of the way Braswell writes. I’ve previously read what once was mine and was able to tolerate the writing however I could not do that with this. Now the one thing I did enjoy was detailed descriptions of the setting, people, and objects. Unfortunately, I had a hard time connecting to the story and sometimes felt myself zone out mid paragraph. It did not need to be 475 pages long. Down to the last 100 pages things were exciting and it had me on the edge. However, 300 or so pages of the same repetitive information was a drag.
