Once Ghosted, Twice Shy: A Reluctant Royals Novella

Alyssa Cole returns with a fun, sexy romance novella in the Reluctant Royals series!

While her boss the prince was busy wooing his betrothed, Likotsi had her own love affair after swiping right on a dating app. But her romance had ended in heartbreak, and now, back in NYC again, she's determined to rediscover her joy--so of course she runs into the woman who broke her heart.

When Likotsi and Fabiola meet again on a stalled subway train months later, Fab asks for just one cup of tea. Likotsi, hoping to know why she was unceremoniously dumped, agrees. Tea and food soon leads to them exploring the city together, and their past, with Fab slowly revealing why she let Likotsi go, and both of them wondering if they can turn this second chance into a happily ever after.

Once Ghosted, Twice Shy is second chance romance between an African Price's assistant and an extroverted fashion designer and social media influencer from New York. While on vacation for the first time in forever, Likotsi decided to spend her time checking off things on a to-do-list. Hoping she can enjoy herself and finally leave the feelings of a past relationship behind her.

But the trains of New York has other plans in mind.  Spotting her on the train is the very person she's trying to forget. Fabiola's character is very much a product of her name and readers might find her character to be flighty and a bit aloof. It wasn't until the 60% mark that I felt I was really getting to understand her character and he reasons for breaking things off with Likotsi without giving any explanation.

I have to admit that the driving pull to finish this book was to find out the "why" behind the break-up rather than seeing this couple rekindle old feelings and have their second-chance.  The chemistry wasn't there for me and the story felt like it was superficial gimmicky to attract sapphic readers to this series. The author's writing isn't bad but I don't feel this story or characters will stick with me after this review.

I must give cudos to the way the authors incorporates the Haitian familial culture and the demand to step in for family even if it means sacrificing you things for you. I learned from a friend that this is accurate.

This isn't a bad book, it was just ok in my eyes. I have to read another boo by this author to see if I like their writing or not.

Quick read, it was pretty cute. I like Litoski’s character, it took me a while to lighten up to Fab because she just seemed like she was playing games. She had commitment issues, but she did have character development. I liked the end. Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it.
