This is a solid, twisty tale of revenge, trauma and grief. Every parent's worst nightmare is their child being abducted. That is exactly what happens to Marin on a crowded shopping day at Pike Place Market in Seattle. Marin is a successful business owner and her husband, Derek, is equally successful. They seem to have it all until the day that their son, Sebastian, is kidnapped. Devastated, they both retreat into themselves and try to deal with it on their own. When the police & FBI search run cold, Marin hires a PI to keep digging and looking for Sebastian. Over a year later, the PI discovers something but it isn't about Sebastian. It's about Derek.
This is a compulsive page turner, full of twists. The missing child story really becomes the backdrop for what Marin is currently going through and how she chooses to deal with it. It is suspenseful but there were some things about Derek that I just couldn't believe. (Not going to give anything away c'mon....you'll know if you read it.) Still a quick, enjoyable read.

Great story, interesting plot twist. Would definitely read more by this author. Love the narrator of the audiobook as well.

“You know what it’s like having a child?… It’s like your heart walking out the door on two legs, vulnerable and unprotected. It’s scary as hell.”

This book had me hooked from beginning to end. There were so many twists and turns, revealing little secrets here and there. As much as I tried, I couldn’t definitively guess the ending, which I appreciate. Too many times I see the ending coming halfway through.

Reading for me is strictly for entertainment. This book was a little too depressing and hard to take due to its subject matter. Even though it ends on a high note, it was just hard and sad for most of the book. However it was well written and moved along nicely. Just not for me.
