I grew up as a fan of Laura Ingalls Wilder. As a child, I spent many enjoyable hours reading her stories. My own daughter is 8 years old now. Reading the Little House books to her feels like visiting an old friend. We make comparisons between Laura's childhood world, my childhood world, & my daughter's world.

Finishing this book was a personal goal for me. It was a chance to prove my fourth grade teacher that he was wrong about my reading abilities. I now understand that I never should have reading this book and probably really struggled to understand it all at that age. Had I read this book a few years later I probably would have understood more of the history and vocabulary and would have enjoyed it. Reading it now...it was okay. Not quite my cup of tea but I can definitely see how it adds a wonderful addition to history of this time period with its extensive detail.

Okay, I really don't like reading this book. I read halfway through it but the story is kinda boring. But I like the writing. I think this book is suit for 2nd or 3rd graders.
