What if you thought you murdered your best friend? And if everyone else thought so too? And what if the truth doesn't matter?

After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy's blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It's been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can't remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

But now the phenomenally huge hit true crime podcast "Listen for the Lie," and its too-good looking host Ben Owens, have decided to investigate Savvy's murder for the show's second season. Lucy is forced to return to the place she vowed never to set foot in again to solve her friend's murder, even if she is the one that did it.

The truth is out there, if we just listen.

WHEW. This book was so good. I literally couldn’t put it down. Woke up at 6:45 this morning, brewed coffee and finished it. I loved the true crime podcast aspect to it. Such a fun twist. Lucy was such an enjoyable character.

Just a good book all around.

I didn’t see the ending coming. I kept rooting for Savvy to survive even knowing it couldn’t be possible, but the big reveal was thrilling. I also loved the incorporation of the podcast format. Ben was a great character. I loved that he went against my expectations and simply sought the truth, not necessarily taking any sides. However, when he did go to bat for Lucy, I thought their chemistry was so electric. I did a tandem read/listen. I highly recommend the audiobook. It was similar to a Graphic Audio style with a mix of duet and dual narration with some sound effects, and the podcast element was extra fun this way.

A total small-town whodunit that had me hooked from start to finish. I was eating it up and loving every second! Also note that this book was made for audio. With so many characters and the unique podcast episode narration style, listening to it felt like an immersive experience you can’t replicate on the page. It’s a solid 10/10 for me. The dark, sarcastic humor of the main character had me giggling more than a few times and the bond between Lucy and Ben was perfection…especially their ending. True MVP was the grandma - If you know, you know.

The truth doesn't matter. Lucy and Savannah are best friends. Or, they were best friends. Savvy's dead now and everyone thinks Lucy did it. The trouble is, Lucy doesn't remember a thing about what happened. Five years later, Lucy confronts her lack of memory with the help of Ben, the host of the Listen for the Lie podcast. Things get interesting between them as they work to uncover the truth about the murder and what Lucy can't or won't let herself remember. I think what attracted me to this book was the podcast-in-a-book concept. I liked it when Lisa Jewell did it, so I was down for this ride. What kept me engaged was the (sometimes dark) humour and Lucy's grandmother. There were a couple of moments where the characters made surprising choices so that was fun. I hoped for a more jaw-dropping reveal, but overall I was entertained.
