Leave Me Behind

Nell Gallows is the sole survivor of an elite dark forces squad, Riøt, after a detrimental attack two years ago. Unsurprisingly, she's being put up as the top candidate for the special ops team: Malum. The squad that goes where no one else will or can. There's only one problem: Malum blames their one casualty from the Patagonia mission on the Riøt squad.

So what is she to do when she finds herself on a plane to California and on her way to a sure death sentence? A one-night stand. At least, that's all it was supposed to be-one last night to be free. Only, she finds out too late that the dark and mysterious man she solely wanted as a fling is not only her new comrade but also the one she dreaded meeting most-her immediate superior and untouchable devil in the field. Bones.

He's hell on earth-cruel and unforgiving, but most of all, he hates her, and he makes sure she knows it. And yet, she finds herself unwilling to leave his side when he's unable to get to the evac point when their mission goes awry.

She stays behind with the devil and the secrets he keeps. They only have one another to trust when no faith is left.

4⭐️ Ok, so for me, this is by far the darkest book I've read since starting my reading journey last year. I would definitely check the trigger warnings before reading because some of the scenes got pretty intense. I will say, though, they were well written, and you definitely felt the emotion from both the FMC and MMC. Bones and Bunny were both extremely broken individuals with deep traumas and a sick way of taking it out on each other. They also had a connection with each other that was beautiful and confusing and whiplash inducing. I've not read very many (if any) true bully, enemies to lovers, but this one was definitely both of those. I did find the ending to be a little lacking...especially with how easily Bunny was just back to being on good terms with Eren after him ordering Bones to kill her with no questions asked. And I didn't love that Bunny went back to Jenkins after he turned out to be the one behind everything. I get it. She was trying to save Bones and Eren, but it was still kind of cliche. Then she asked to be the one to kill him and sobbed and kept the little box? Like hello...Bones just spent the last 2-3yrs planning your rescue and you're here crying over the man who turned you into a monster, was the reason your whole squad got killed and knew you loved someone else but still wouldn't let you leave...girl, no. Yes, Bones and Bunny got their version of a HEA, but I feel like it could have ended better.
