Lease on Love

After getting passed over for an overdue—and much-needed—promotion, Sadie Green is in desperate need of three things: a stiff drink, a new place to live, and a one-night stand. But when an accidental mix-up lands her on the doorstep of Jack Thomas's gorgeous Brooklyn brownstone, it's too bad Sadie is more attracted to the impressive real estate than she is to the man himself. Jack, still grieving the unexpected death of his parents, has learned to find comfort in video games and movie marathons instead of friends. So while he doesn’t know just what to make of the vivaciously verbose Sadie, he’s willing to offer her his spare bedroom while she gets back on her feet. And with the rent unbeatably low, Sadie can finally pursue her floristry side hustle full-time. The two are polar opposites, but as Sadie’s presence begins to turn the brownstone into a home, they both start to realize they may have just made the deal of a lifetime.

This book was a pleasant surprise, it is exactly the light-heartedness I needed.

I actually didn't read the synopsis properly before starting the book, I think everyone knows my obsession with pretty covers so that was the deciding factor for me.

The way they met was so cute (is that why they call it meet cute?) and I didn't expect that to happen. Sadie gave me I-can-be-confident-and-also-cry-at-the-same-time vibes. She needed a little pushing from her bffs to pursue her dreams due to her PTSD from her verbally abusive father. But once she put her mind into it, she did well. And Jack is someone I didn't fancy until he started opening up more which was in the second half of the book. But once he did, I couldn't not like him. A guy who knows how to own up to his actions and yet respect the other's emotions? A guy that knows how to give space and reassure at the same time? He's literally got traits of The Perfect Boyfriend. I really liked how sensitive he was to Sadie's feelings and continued to be there for her despite her quick and hurtful tongue. I also liked the texts between the gang in the book, usually I wouldn't but the ones in this book helped me to understand Jack more. There was a slow burn throughout this book which I think did work because I was waiting for the kiss to happen. Also for those who are interested: the smut is Level 1 (description of what happens) and that's all you get.

As usual, the miscommunication/mandatory fight at the end part was just so unnecessary because it was such a small issue. I also couldn't stand Sadie's self sabotaging ways, like I understand her PTSD but if she wasn't seeing progress she needs professional help - which she sought for nearer to the end so I can't entirely blame her as she did take ownership and responsibility for her actions. There was also too much emphasis on her friends that Jack and Sadie's relationship didn't seem to blossom as much, it seemed to develop only because of the circumstances around them.

Overall, it could have been a better book but it wasn't that bad to the extent of disliking it.

A predicatable love story with not much more to it. I didn’t love the way they tried to make it so modern & Sadie talked like a frat boy which just wasn’t my style but it was still a relatable, cute, and quick read.
