⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
iron gold felt like being thrown into a storm with no way out and i loved every second. it’s definitely a heavier, slower, more political book, but in a way that makes everything cut deeper. the world is cracked open now, and it’s not just darrow’s pain we’re feeling. it’s everyone that’s is effected. the cost of war, the grief, the guilt is everywhere.
darrow is still that guy, HE IS THE REAPER. he may be tired, worn down, and haunted but he keeps going. watching him try to lead a broken republic while carrying the weight of everything he’s lost is soul-crushing. the other POVs added so much including ephraim’s bitter sarcasm, lyria’s trauma and rage, and lysander… okay. he’s annoying. but he’s also exactly who he needs to be. entitled, calculated, clinging to the past like it’s gospel. it made me wanna throw the book across the room sometimes, but it works. he’s a necessary kind of frustrating.
this book isn’t about glory it’s about consequences. it’s about the people left behind when revolutions end and the mess that comes after. pierce brown didn’t just continue the story he deepened it. iron gold is complex, painful, and absolutely brilliant. i’m obsessed and terrified for what’s next in dark age!
Audiobook listen. I’m so glad there’s a second trilogy in this series. I liked the way the first set of books ended but there’s so much more in this world that was explored in this book. I also LOVE the multi-POV!
The change of POV kept this book moving in all sorts of directions! I enjoyed each situation individually, probably leaning more towards a 4.5 since some areas got a bit slow.
I was obsessed with the Red Rising series until this book. Honestly, it was a disappointment and makes me wish I stopped after book 3.
