House of Sky and Breath (Crescent City, 2)

The second book in the sexy, groundbreaking, #1 bestselling Crescent City series by Sarah J. Maas, author of the Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) series.

Bryce Quinlan and Hunt Athalar are trying to get back to normal. They may have saved Crescent City, but with so much upheaval in their lives lately, they mostly want a chance to relax. Slow down. Figure out what the future holds.

The Asteri have kept their word so far, leaving Bryce and Hunt alone. But with the rebels chipping away at the Asteri's power, the threat the rulers pose is growing. As Bryce, Hunt, and their friends get pulled into the rebels' plans, the choice becomes clear: stay silent while others are oppressed or fight for what's right. And they've never been very good at staying silent.

In this sexy, action-packed sequel to the #1 bestseller House of Earth and Blood, Sarah J. Maas weaves a captivating story of a world about to explode-and the people who will do anything to save it.

Despite that major twist this one is still a four for me. It took over 50% of the book to get me really invested and even that was a struggle. The last four hours of the audio are what did it for me.

I will tell you it is worth it though!!

Middle Book Syndrome strikes again. Sadly, Sky and Breath did not live up to the expectations that Earth and Blood set… making it slightly disappointing in comparison. I did enjoy getting to know some of the minor characters from book 1 a lot more, and I enjoyed a lot of the new characters too. But with my adhd… there are too many characters for my liking. I’m an audiobook listener since sitting down to read is difficult for me. And the amount of times I had to pause the book to remind myself who the characters are is actually embarrassing. Do other people just remember every character and their storyline?? Sometimes I feel like I should be taking notes. Anyway, Bryce and Hunt become official. Rune falls for a mysterious lady. And those are basically the only characters I care about. Also, prepare yourself for an ACOTAR crossover 😍 3⭐️⭐️⭐️.5’s

House of Sky and Breath is an absolute whirlwind of emotions! The second-hand embarrassment I felt for the lead female character was intense — not because she did anything wrong, but because of how much she learns and uncovers, which would drive anyone mad! She is incredibly relatable, and I found her journey both frustrating and endearing at times. The depth of every character in this book is remarkable; each one feels fully fleshed out, with their own struggles and growth. While some of the mysteries and plots seemed obvious or easy to figure out, the pacing toward the end kept me on the edge of my seat. The twists and turns had me gasping, with plenty of those “Aha!” moments that I love. I’m absolutely excited to dive into the next book in the series! One final note — I’m blown away by how well this series ties into the broader Maas universe. Seeing familiar faces and connections was a real treat, and it makes me even more invested in this world. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
