Her Soul to Take

Leon

I earned my reputation among magicians for a reason: one wrong move and you're dead. Killer, they called me, and killing is what I'm best at. Except her. The one I was supposed to take, the one I should have killed - I didn't. The cult that once controlled me wants her, and I'm not about to lose my new toy to them.

Rae

I've always believed in the supernatural. Hunting for ghosts is my passion, but summoning a demon was never part of the plan. Monsters are roaming the woods, and something ancient - something evil - is waking up and calling my name. I don't know who I can trust, or how deep this darkness goes. All I know is my one shot at survival is the demon stalking me, and he doesn't just want my body - he wants my soul.

Her Soul to Take is book 1 in the Souls Trilogy. Although all the books are interconnected, they are stand-alone and can be read in any order.

This book from beginning to end had me hooked. I was even rooting for a demon and I’m glad I did.

Almost everything about this book was really good. The plot, characters and banter however the book could’ve ended 50 pages sooner.

I received this book for free in a Good Reads drawing.

I'm not sure if I've ever had such a hard time rating a book. Initially, when the book was repeating almost everything word for word from each of the main characters perspective, I struggled and honestly thought I was going to put it down, but thankfully that wasn't a repeating theme through out the story line.

It was frustrating to me, because the main character seemed determined to get herself killed. it's like she was deliberately obtuse, despite being informed, quite literally, that people and creatures were trying to kill her. "Oh, this guy wants to kill me? lets go to his house party and accept random drinks from him--oh and while we are here, lets wander around in secret rooms and stuff"

I think that I would have enjoyed it more if the main character had even an inkling of common sense. I liked the story line well enough, but it can be hard to get into a story when the main character is so frustrating.

The writing was great! I loved the story and how everything wasn't confusing. I loved the FMC and the MMC and their story together.

“Her Soul to Take” was a surprisingly mixed blend—dark, witchy, sexy, and sometimes heartfelt. The small-town occult vibe was engaging. Rae was the MVP, doing the hardest work and keeping the story together, even though she wasn't expected to be the one in charge. Leon, despite claiming to be a “powerful demon,” didn’t live up to that, but was charming with good chemistry. I loved the side characters, especially Juniper, who stole every scene. Overall, it was a fun, dark, and steamy read with some pacing issues and a convenient ending, but a good start to the trilogy. I’ll keep reading to see what happens next.
