Re-reading this as a more well read adult, I was eager to see how it holds up to my childhood reading of it.
I am happy to say the enthralling world still pulls you in immediately. The language is surprisingly robust and balances ease of reading and good description.

The story I know well, but having not read the books in over a decade, I was a little surprised at how much depth they hold. I have recently gone through the film's and the magic of the books is just overflowing compared to them.

I'm looking forward to blasting through the rest before the end of the year :)

So I'm a little behind on reading the series....I have definitely been an avid Harry Potter "movie" fan from when they began with the first film, so I had to make an effort to read the series. I am really glad that I have begun doing just that, because this book was absolutely fantastic! My favorite part of the story is the very beginning as Harry finds out about the Magic World and begins his journey into it all beginning with his first trip as a first year to Hogwarts. I absolutely loved the details and descriptions along with the great illustrations of the book, which went to show how well the movie made everything come alive. I think the movie did the book absolute justice, and it was an odd place I found myself being that I hadn't read the books first which I'm pretty adamant about with other movies. It felt nice to be on the opposite end as a moviegoer, to go back and read little tidbits here and there that the movie wasn't able to capture and gain a hidden treasure so to speak by reading the book. Very well done J.K. Rowling! (Not that I had any doubts) On to the Chamber of Secrets!

Not sure why I hedn't read the series yet but I'm glad I've started. Book was very similar to the movie. Harry's first year at Hogwarts and learning his family history. He learns how his parents died and how to play Wizard's chess, and starts learning how to be a wizard. He learns that not everything is as it seems. Very fun and interesting....

I have never read this series even though I bought all the books as they came out. During this sheltering in place time, I have decided to read at least some of these. I thought this one was well depicted in the movie version.

I honestly cannot say how may times I have read this this book, however, this was my first time as an adult and the last time was about 15 years ago.
The only major difference?
I cried when Harry got the photo album.
Still a magical story, even if the author is not.
