…plus two bonus chapters from Xaden’s point of view!

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.

But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away…because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.

She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.

Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom’s protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.

Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.

vomit of some sort of hunger games, enders game, harry potter, with a sprinkle of dragons.

The book wasnt awful perse but I didn’t find myself as invested in the story. Don’t get me wrong the dragons and the magic was very interesting but I didn’t really care for the whole school challenge blah blah set up plot. Like why couldn’t we just go and start at the rebel cause?

****SPOILER****
Characters: (sigh)
Even though they were 20+ years old it read as very tweeny and i found myself rolling my eyes a lot. Like the sex scenes? Lol idk

Jack was your typical cartoon villian and we are never told why he hates violet but glad she killed him off with her powers

Dian? I hate that guy. He was a loser who was annoying and treated violet like a baby. I was glad to see Mira put him in his place.

Xaden… i like him. Typical broody dude but was aight. We should have gotten his entire POV book.

Now onto our main Mary Sue Special Snowflake… she was soooo annoying. Bonds with 2 dragons

OH. MY. GOD I get it. I fully get why everyone is obsessed with this book and am officially joining the bandwagon. I devoured this book and can’t stop thinking about it no matter what I do. It’s in my blood. I can’t even form enough coherent thoughts to put into words but all I can say is, if you’ve been holding out on this book, don’t. It will consume you and inevitably change you but it is 100% worth it. Can’t wait to start Iron Flame!

This is a book that you can read over and over again and still be pulled into the story as if it was the first time. There’s witty banter, war, academia, magic, found family, enemies to lovers, romance, and of course, DRAGONS! Violet is an amazing FMC that you immediately just root for because she’s thrown into the violent war plagued world by her own mother and the rest is just amazing. She’s relatable and grows so much in such a small amount of time. Then there is her friends, her enemies, and her story that is just so filled to the brim with awesomeness that you can’t put the book down. You get to hate a few characters, fall in love with others, and absolutely get hypnotized by 3 others. As a multiple-time reader, there are so many hints that Rebecca gave us in the first that you don’t realize until you read Iron Flame and then reread Fourth Wing. The hits are hitting and I’m so ready to reread Iron Flame.

This was alright. About as good as I expected a fantasy teen novel to be. If not a bit too edgy for my taste, it got the job done. Biggest flaw I would say is that the story felt more of a set up for Iron Flame until the last act kicked into gear with the action.
