Found in a Bookshop
The life-affirming and unforgettable new novel from the author of Lost for Words 'A delightful and original concept about how a second hand bookshop can heal a community' Katie Fforde 'What a lovely book - so assured and gentle, full of compassion and replete with astute observations of human nature and behaviour' Carys Bray 'A really moving read - with great book recommendations included, too!' My Weekly Loveday Cardew's beloved Lost for Words bookshop, along with the rest of York, has fallen quiet. At the very time when people most need books to widen their horizons, or escape from their fears, or enhance their lives, the doors are closed. Then the first letter comes. Rosemary and George have been married for fifty years. Now their time is running out. They have decided to set out on their last journey together, without ever leaving the bench at the bottom of their garden in Whitby. All they need is someone who shares their love of books. Suddenly it's clear to Loveday that she and her team can do something useful in a crisis. They can recommend books to help with the situations their customers find themselves in: fear, boredom, loneliness, the desire for laughter and escape. And so it begins.,

A love story about the power of books that will grow your TBR like you won't believe! Set in the pandemic time period, a bookstore finds a way to offer support for people through book prescriptions. The stories and the people in this book will become dear, as well as the thoughtful book recommendations. The moments of reflection about what it means to be a reader will make you fall in love with being a bookworm all over again! ❤️
An endearing book about how a bookstore brought people together during Covid in England, but it’s quite sad at times. I loved the Book Pharmacy, what a fantastic idea!! Easy to read and beautifully written. I love my books and enjoyed reading about others who love reading also. I didn’t realize this was a sequel and didn’t feel like I missed anything in not reading the first book. Book #37 in 2024
Charming and heartwarming with incredibly endearing and relatable characters!
I thoroughly enjoyed the layout of this story organized by the characters' personal vignettes and the winding narrative threads that will have you laughing, cheering, aching and tearing up as a good story normally does. I also appreciated one of the overarching themes of the book - the ability of a bookshop to provide comfort and solace and act as an additional central character throughout - exuding resilience and a quiet air of dignity against the backdrop of an eerily quiet Yorkshire grappling with Covid.
This is a comfort read and I also appreciated the tailored lists of recommended reading (meant for the bookshop's patrons - ;) ) that pepper its pages.
