For a Lifetime: An Inspirational Salem Witch Trials and Edwardian-Era Time Travel Historical Romance (Timeless)

Two sisters. Two timelines. An unthinkable tragedy that alters the course of their lives.
Grace and Hope are identical twin sisters born with the ability to time-cross together between 1692 Salem, Massachusetts, and 1912 New York City. As their twenty-fifth birthday approaches, they will have to choose one life to keep and one to leave behind forever--no matter the cost.
In 1692, they live and work in their father's tavern, where they must watch helplessly as the witch trials unfold in their village, threatening everyone. With the help of a handsome childhood friend, they search for the truth behind their mother's mysterious death, risking everything to expose a secret that could save their lives--or be their undoing.
In 1912, Hope dreams of becoming one of the first female pilots in America, and Grace works as an investigative journalist, uncovering corruption and injustice. After their parents' orphanage is threatened by an adversary, they enter a contest to complete a perilous cross-country flight under the guidance of a daring French aviator.
The sisters have already decided which timeline they will choose, but an unthinkable tragedy complicates the future they planned for themselves. As their birthday looms, how will they determine the lives--and loves--that are best for both of them?

Author: Gabrielle Meyer
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My Review:
I adore Gabrielle Meyer’s Timeless series, and I was so ready for For a Lifetime.
This story follows Hope and Grace—identical twins who time-cross between 1692 Salem and 1912 New York City. As their twenty-fifth birthday nears, they must choose one life… and leave the other behind forever.
And that premise? It never stops feeling impossible.
The 1692 Salem timeline completely gripped me. It’s devastating, carefully handled, and painfully real. The depiction of the Salem witch trials was heartbreaking, but Gabrielle Meyer approached it with such care, respect, and historical depth. It was the kind of storyline that made me pause and sit with what I had read, while also being impossible to put down.
The 1912 New York timeline carried its own weight—beauty tangled with grief, hope threaded through loss. There was so much sorrow woven throughout this story, but also so much mercy, redemption, and evidence of God’s faithfulness. One of my favorite aspects of the novel was the reminder that God is present not only in our joys and victories, but also in our suffering and seasons of grief.
What unexpectedly affected me most, though, was the twins’ search for their birth mother from 1692. As an adoptee who doesn’t know my own birth family or history, that storyline struck a deeply personal chord with me. The longing, questions, and search for identity woven throughout their journey resonated in a way I wasn’t expecting and added an extra layer of emotional depth to the story.
I’ll be honest—I struggled a bit more to connect with Hope and Grace than I did with the main characters from the first two books. I definitely found myself connecting with one twin more than the other. In fact, one of them felt a little too selfish at times for my personal taste.
And yet, by the end, I was genuinely surprised by the twin I connected with less. Her transformation and sacrificial love completely changed how I viewed her character. Watching her growth unfold was deeply moving, and her arc ended up becoming one of the most powerful parts of the entire story for me.
The romance also felt a little forced at times, and I didn’t always connect with those relationships as naturally as I had in previous books. However, by the end, everything came together in such a beautiful, tender, and redemptive way that those concerns faded into the background. The ending was incredibly satisfying and wrapped up the story with so much hope and heart.
While this one took longer to draw me in than the first two books, its emotional depth, beautiful ending, and powerful themes of identity, sacrifice, family, faith, and redemption ultimately won me over.
It may not have been a perfect book, but it was one that deeply moved me, stayed with me long after I turned the final page, and reminded me once again why I love Gabrielle Meyer’s Timeless series so much.
By the final pages, I knew this was a 5-star read for me, and I can’t wait to continue the series. I’ve heard book four is a favorite for many readers, and I’m excited to see where the Timeless journey goes next. 💕
