First-Time Caller (Heartstrings)

INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

A hopeless romantic meets a jaded radio host in this cozy, Sleepless in Seattle–inspired love story from beloved author B.K. Borison.

Aiden Valentine has a secret: he’s fallen out of love with love. And as the host of Baltimore’s romance hotline, that’s a bit of a problem. But when a young girl calls in to the station asking for dating advice for her mom, the interview goes viral, thrusting Aiden and Heartstrings into the limelight.

Lucie Stone thought she was doing just fine. She has a good job; an incredible family; and a smart, slightly devious kid. But when all of Baltimore is suddenly scrutinizing her love life—or lack thereof—she begins to question if she’s as happy as she believed. Maybe a little more romance wouldn’t be such a bad thing.

Everyone wants Lucie to find her happy ending…even the handsome, temperamental man calling the shots. But when sparks start to fly behind the scenes, Lucie must make the final decision between the radio-sponsored happily ever after or the man in the headphones next to her.

I was first introduced to Borison when I read Lovelight Farms I liked that novel and so this made it an easy choice to pick up during BOTM. This one was a really sweet read. There is definitely open door spice, but you can easily skip that part if it’s not your jam. What I loved the most about this book was the premise. It was a call back to 90’s rom-coms but without feeling dated or stale. It was very fresh and modern yet nostalgic and to me that was impressive to bring those elements together. I could relate soo much to both Aiden and Lucie and that was also refreshing as more often than not one of the protagonist really annoy me throughout. The setting was descriptive and lent it self beautifully to the story almost like a supporting character. Speaking of supporting characters I thought the cast was also interesting and added to the story with humor, insights, and moving the story forward. I would love to see this adapted into a movie. There were some really great quotes I highlighted which was also a first.

I absolutely loved this! It was everything I was hoping it would be and more. As an Orioles fan, I loved the Baltimore setting and all of the Orioles mentions. As an Indiana Jones fan, I didn't appreciate the Crystal Skull hate lol...but I'll let it slide. I really enjoyed the story, and although I went in assuming that Aiden and Lucie would end up together, I very much loved the road to getting there. I didn't even think about the wording that phrase til I typed it...Mr. Tire would be so proud of me lol. I also, even though I'm very much a spicy dark romance girlie, very much appreciated the limited spice and focus on the plot and development of the characters. This was a one sitting read for me and I highly recommend giving this one a try!
