“The perfect blend of mystery and rom-com.”—Ali Hazelwood

Most moms are ready to kill someone by 8.30 a.m. on any given morning . . .

Finlay Donovan is killing it . . . except, she’s really not. She’s a stressed-out single-mom of two and struggling novelist, Finlay’s life is in chaos: the new book she promised her literary agent isn’t written, her ex-husband fired the nanny without telling her, and this morning she had to send her four-year-old to school with hair duct-taped to her head after an incident with scissors.

When Finlay is overheard discussing the plot of her new suspense novel with her agent over lunch, she’s mistaken for a contract killer, and inadvertently accepts an offer to dispose of a problem husband in order to make ends meet . . . Soon, Finlay discovers that crime in real life is a lot more difficult than its fictional counterpart, as she becomes tangled in a real-life murder investigation.

Fast-paced, deliciously witty, and wholeheartedly authentic in depicting the frustrations and triumphs of motherhood in all its messiness, hilarity, and heartfelt moments, Finlay Donovan Is Killing It is the first in the brilliant and beloved Finlay Donovan series from New York Times bestseller and Edgar Award nominee Elle Cosimano.

I cannot recommend this book enough. It’s EASILY in my “Top 5 Favorite Reads of 2022” list and it’s only the 1st of August.

Finlay Donovan, a single mother and struggling crime/romance author, has it rough. Her life is in shambles; her ex-husband cheated on her with their real estate agent and she’s struggling balancing being a full time mom and full time writer. She’s down on her luck and financially in the toilet… until one fateful morning.

At a meeting with her publicist, Finlay is describing her “progress” (or lack thereof) with her newest novel. Their conversation is overheard by a desperate wife who mistakes Finn for a contract assassin and offers her a large sum of money to take out her scumbag husband. One thing leads to another and Finlay’s curiosity gets the better of her, which leads Finlay on a wild adventure (with the reluctant help of her nanny, Vero).

And oh my lord, I fell in love with the book and the character of Finlay Donovan from the first page. This book is witty, thrilling, twisty-turny, and hilarious. I loved this book. It kept me on the edge of my seat and you can’t help BUT root for Finn and Vero. Finn and Vero are very “Thelma and Louise” like in their dynamic and the sheer amount of witty banter between the two of them alone makes this book fun to read. Throw in the twists and turns they go through to not only finish the job but keep the police off their tracks is crazy fun and thrilling to read. This one’s a page turner and a fun, refreshing, and unique twist on the stereotypical crime/thriller. Highly, highly recommend!

What a great read! I started it with the intention of putting in a few hours, and someone finished it in just under 24 hrs. I honestly couldn't put it down. I enjoyed how much the plot (though absolutely ridiculous and completely far-fetched) still kept me guessing right down to the last page (now I have to read the follow up book!) The book played out like a plot of a movie but I still highly enjoyed it.

LOL. What a fun and funny little murder story... Cute, quick, and packaged with a nice big red bow. How everything can go wrong but somehow be right at the same time. I can understand why Cosimano has a hit character and now has 4-5 books in the series. While Fin is a fun character, definitely find Val perhaps even more intriguing. I can see myself coming back to this series a little later for read that I know will be a quick, and where everything is ok in the end.
