Finlay Donovan Knocks 'Em Dead (The Finlay Donovan Series, 2)

A USA TODAY BESTSELLER!

From Edgar-Award nominee Elle Cosimano, comes Finlay Donovan Knocks 'Em Dead--the hilarious and heart-pounding follow-up to Finlay Donovan is Killing It.

"Cosimano skillfully combines suspense and laughs in the manner of Janet Evanovich's early (and best) novels, finished off with a metafictional twist."--New York Times Book Review

"A funny and smart, twisty and surprising series."--Megan Miranda

Finlay Donovan is--once again--struggling to finish her next novel and keep her head above water as a single mother of two. On the bright side, she has her live-in nanny and confidant Vero to rely on, and the only dead body she's dealt with lately is that of her daughter's pet goldfish.

On the not-so-bright side, someone out there wants her ex-husband, Steven, out of the picture. Permanently. Whatever else Steven may be, he's a good father, but saving him will send her down a rabbit hole of hit-women disguised as soccer moms, and a little bit more involvement with the Russian mob than she'd like.

Meanwhile, Vero's keeping secrets, and Detective Nick Anthony seems determined to get back into her life. He may be a hot cop, but Finlay's first priority is preventing her family from sleeping with the fishes... and if that means bending a few laws then so be it.

With her next book's deadline looming and an ex-husband to keep alive, Finlay is quickly coming to the end of her rope. She can only hope there isn't a noose at the end of it...

I was definitely invested in this series after the first book so had to continue listening to this series right away! I still love Finlay & vero’s dynamic and with this one being the second in the series we start to get more depth. A lot of secrets and myseries start to come out and I was definitely hooked trying to figure out who posted on the women’s forum just like finlay was. I did feel like the plot was a bit repetitive from the first book at first but it started to gain steam towards the end with some twists I didn’t see coming. I sitll really enjoyed listening to this versus reading a physical copy and will continue with this format for book three soon. I actually think I’m most excited for the next book because this one leaves me hanging way more than the first book left us.

Fun continued read from the first book in the series. Although it was kind of difficult to really like the main character. But overall kept me wanting to read the next chapter.

“Never go back to the scene of a crime. It’s simple common sense if you want to get away with murder. Right up there with don’t wrap a corpse in your shower curtain, don’t buy four gallons of bleach and a shovel with your credit card, and don’t keep a chest freezer in your garage.” Finlay Donovan still can't catch a break. Love life: complicated; book: behind schedule; connection to the mob: also complicated. This time around, Fin is trying to protect her ex-husband from the latest contract-for-hire. I read this one without even knowing what it was about and it did not disappoint. It's packed with adventure, romance, and humour. The plot keeps you engaged and the characters are fun and interesting. As with the first book, there is a big grain of salt to be taken when reading this, but it's such a good time that plausibility doesn't matter. I find myself fantasy-casting a TV adaptation with Kristen Bell as Finlay, Aubrey Plaza as Vero and Ruby Rose as Georgia. Not sure yet who would play Steven, Nick, and Julian. Maybe Natasha Lyonne as Sylvia?

Another really fun Finlay Donovan romp! I saw a few mixed reviews on this one, saying it either lived up to the first one or fell flat, but in my opinion, this one was just as fun and suspenseful as the first novel in the series!

I love the character progression, suspense, relatable humor about parenting, and the pace of these novels so far.
