Find Her (Detective D. D. Warren)
Lisa Gardner's runaway New York Times bestseller--a fast-paced thrill ride featuring Detective D. D. Warren. Seven years ago, carefree college student Flora Dane was kidnapped while on spring break. For 472 days, Flora learned just how much one person can endure. Miraculously alive after her ordeal, Flora has spent the past five years reacquainting herself with the rhythms of normal life, working with her FBI victim advocate, Samuel Keynes. She has a mother who's never stopped loving her, a brother who is scared of the person she's become, and a bedroom wall covered with photos of other girls who've never made it home. When Boston detective D. D. Warren is called to the scene of a crime--a dead man and the bound, naked woman who killed him--she learns that Flora has tangled with three other suspects since her return to society. Is Flora a victim or a vigilante? And with her firsthand knowledge of criminal behavior, could she hold the key to rescuing a missing college student whose abduction has rocked Boston? When Flora herself disappears, D.D. realizes a far more sinister predator is out there. One who's determined that this time, Flora Dane will never escape. And now it is all up to D. D. Warren to find her.

I didn't realize that this book was part of a series based on Detective D.D. Warren. It's wonderfully written, with the narration split between the points of view of D.D. and Flora Dane. Gardner was able to really get into the heads of her characters and write as them, almost as if the book had been written by two people and put together.
This is one of those books where more is revealed about the past of a character during the telling of the story. Usually I think of this as an annoying gimmick. This time, the slow revelations are letting us into the dark, boxed-in memories and emotions of the character's past, being revealed at a pace that the character can deal with.
You expect twists in a book like this. This time around, I'm not sure I'd call them twists. When something unexpected happens, it's more like "ah, well, of course!"
Find Her is one of the best psychological thrillers I've read in a long time.

I’m also a crime junkie! This one was difficult to get through at first with intense details, to horrible crime. But the ending makes it worth it. The idea of forgiving, forgetting, and letting go almost seems like the moral.
Wish it was a movie. Detailed, and easily envisioned.
For a long time I thought it was a me issue that thrillers really weren't that thrilling to me. I was never blown away. I always knew I would forget what I'd just finished within a couple of weeks.
IT WAS NOT A ME THING. THIS IS WHAT A THRILLER SHOULD BE.
Memorable characters. Jaw dropping moments. Twists and turns. Not resorting to pure shock and gore. To be clear, there is a time and place for shock and gore. Where I don't want it is in a thin plot thriller to try to force a thrill, to try to carry the book. Separate genre, my amateur author friends. I loved the chapters flipping between characters - leaving me hanging and rushing to get to the next part about that character. Yet I didn't ever feel like skipping over a character's chapter because all were equally captivating.
This was my first Lisa Gardner. I didn't realize that I started so far into the series, but it didn't really matter. I was able to jump right in without feeling like I was missing anything.
I am an avid Criminal Minds fan and this often reminded me a lot of that show and what I love about it. Not sure if that's helpful. I'm pretty much just rambling at this point.
Lucky duck me actually bought all in the series without remembering that I did, so I'm going to be a pretty busy gal this year as I devour the entire Detective D.D. Warren series.
FINALLY found my thriller.
