Entertainment Weekly · Amazon · Goodreads · BookPage

A romance novel-obsessed social media influencer revisits her exes on her hunt for true love in this romantic comedy from the author of Set On You.

Romance book connoisseur Tara Chen has had her heart broken ten times by ten different men—all of whom dumped her because of her “stage-five clinger” tendencies. Nevertheless, Tara is determined to find The One. The only problem? Classic meet-cutes are dead, thanks to modern dating apps. So Tara decides to revisit her exes in hopes of securing her very own trope-worthy second-chance romance.

Boston firefighter Trevor Metcalfe will be the first to rush into a burning building but the last to rush into a relationship. Love just isn’t his thing. When his new roommate Tara enlists him to help her reconnect with her exes, he reluctantly agrees. But Tara’s journey is leading him to discover his own new chapter.

The more time they spend together, the more Tara realizes Trevor seems to be the only one who appreciates her authentic, dramatic self. To claim their happily ever after, can Tara and Trevor read between the lines of their growing connection?

Overall 3.5 stars for me. I found it incredibly sweet, especially towards the end but sometimes the transitions between chapters was incredibly jarring. I'd go back and forth between the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new, thinking I missed a page or two. This took me out of the flow of the story but I enjoyed watching Tara try to fi d her second chance romance, when all along it was a forced proximity, friends to lovers trope. As the saying goes, "and they were roommates".

A few cringy elements but THE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT >>>>
It was so nice to read a book where it wasn’t absolutely perfect & the main character actually learned lessons & developed. Perfect read for February too

I liked it but didn’t love it. It took me a while to get in to. At first Tara really annoyed me but Trevor was good for her and I ended up really liking them together.

If there’s anyone in this world I want to try for, it’s you

Trevor gives hope to us romance girlies that there will be a man out there who learns all the possible tropes in romance AND practice them with us.

Honestly, I was ready to tap out at the 30-40% mark because this book was so unbearably draggy. Tara was going on a quest to find someone for the V's day Gala and because her Grandma gave her the horrible idea of scouting from her table of exes, she started contacted them one by one. My personal opinion is that exes are meant to be left out in the trash can so obviously that didn't align with me but because it is fictional I carried on.

I know how rare is it for women, romance readers, women who yearn for their fairy tale to find a guy that doesn't grimace at "romance books" and so for Trevor to exist was a huge delight, although sadly in the fictional world. I liked how interested he was with everything Tara did, from her meals to the book she reads to her day. I liked how invested he was in her quest although he was secretly pining for her because he thought that was what she wanted. A guy like that who's all or nothing is the guy everyone deserves.

Of course, the breakup act - it was inevitable like I smelt it a few chapters away because of how it was highlighted and I just feel it didn't need to be so dramatic.

Also, why was the smut so PG13???? He needed to be reading out smut from Tara's books in between her thighs and it didn't happen, that was disappointing too.

Overall an enjoyable read, only take it up if you could bear the extra long chapters.
