Finished listening to the audio book with my son. I enjoyed it very much. We're moving on to the second one.

Fairies, trolls, humans and gold would usually be a good recipe for a great book. Wanted so much to love it but couldn't find myself caring. Holly is a fairy who got kidnapped by Artie and Butler. Butler's sister, Juliette is irritating in this story. I am suppose to like Holly but I find myself not caring when she gets put into a cell and bangs her head repeatedly to loosen the bed from the wall in hopes of getting dirt into her acorn so her magic can recharge.

Artie is a 12 yr old genius who displays hardly any emotions. So...am I suppose to care about him? His only tenderness is in terms of his mother and father. The ending even ruins that belief. He often teeters between good and evil. He is mainly just greedy.

Commander Root and Fowley's bantering gets to be agitating after a while and his idea of sending in the Dwarf (Mulch) was just plain exasperating. In the end, Mulch walks away with half of hte gold Artie acquired but gave it up to the LEP for a wish for Holly to make come true (make Artie's mom normal again). Mulch also faked his own death.

Butler the man servant always served Artie faithfully until towards the end when he noticed his baby sister, Juliette was not waking up from the sedatives Artie gave them to out fox the blue rinse. That was the only time Butler questioned or shall I say ordered Artie to explain himself.

Overall I just couldn't get into it.

The adventures of a genius criminal prodigy, Artemis Fowl and his supernatural aide Holly Short. Each and every word eccentrically written.
