“Unforgettable characters . . . richly embroidered with historical detail.”—The Cincinnati Post

What if you knew someone you loved was going to die? What if you thought you could save them? How much would you risk to try?

Claire Randall has gone to find Jamie Fraser, the man she loved more than life, and has left half her heart behind with their daughter, Brianna. Claire gave up Jamie to save Brianna, and now Bree has sent her mother back to the mysterious Scottish warrior who was willing to give his life to save them both. But a chilling discovery in the pages of history suggests that Jamie and Claire’s story doesn’t have a happy ending.

Brianna dares a terrifying leap into the unknown in search of her mother and the father she has never met, risking her own future to try to change history . . . and to save their lives. But as Brianna plunges into an uncharted wilderness, a heartbreaking encounter may strand her forever in the past . . . or root her in the place she should be, where her heart and soul belong.

This hefty tome took me a while to get through, but it wasn't because of a lack of interest. Unfortunately, I was unable to set life aside so I could quietly inhale this book. Drums of Autumn finds Jamie and Claire in America, and I'm still baffled at all of the things that occurred during this fourth installment. The last 300 pages were almost unputdownable. I don't know how Diana Gabaldon does it, but each book holds its own. Thoroughly enjoyable!

I’m conflicted. I like these books. But sometimes I find they drag so much I can’t focus on them. As with this one. I love the characters and the plot but there was probably 250 unnecessary pages. I’ll still read the next one it’s just a lot to handle.

Jamie and Claire make their way in America. Specifically north carolina. Lots of interesting anecdotes about ship passage to the new world and interactions with the indigenous people. Brianna and Roger play a role in this tale as well.

Brianna Ellen Randall Fraser is one of the most frustratingly stupidest characters in a novel I’ve ever run into. With a penchant for drama, her sheer idiocy gets her into problem after problem. How someone as intelligent as Claire should birth and raise her and end up with an idiot of a daughter is beyond me. Thank God for characters like Ian and John Grey and Roger to make this book more enjoyable than it should have been.
