I am enjoying Sofia Aves Cayote Falls series, this book can totally be read as a standalone. Wilder West had sweated blood for ranch owner Cordell Rand, he had helped him build, he had watched him ride bulls, he had watched him nearly die, he had nursed him, pushed him, cajoled him until Cordell began to walk again. West had left the ranch, he was now training a bright young bull rider to competition standard, how will Cordell react when he finds out ? West had never forgotten his best friend's younger sister, Winnie, he always wanted her, but she was off limits. Winnie had married and was now divorced from her controlling ex, she now had a ten year old daughter, Sally, who she adored. Winnie was a paramedic, she was feisty, she was sassy and she was the person who everyone turned to with their problems. Broody West was in a bar, he spotted the curly head that he was looking for, Winnie was whooping with delight as she caught the sweaty shirt that the singer threw to her, the singer on the stage was a nurse that she worked with. West wasn't going to let this go any further, Winnie deserved better than the skinny singer. This story follows Winnie and West as they finally come together, the journey is long and bumpy, I did like the characters, I love the way West was determined to protect the independent Winnie, I did enjoy the banter between them. I loved the gentle, trusting relationship between West and Sally. Can Winnie ,with her trust issues, ever let West completely into her life ? Can West resolve his issues with Coyote Falls and Cordell ? How will Cordell feel about his best friend pairing up with his little sister ? An enjoyable story, a little too long in my opinion and I must admit to getting lost a couple of times. I received a free ARC of this book and my review is totally voluntary.
