This book was on my to read list because they had made a movie based on it. I have yet to watch the movie and look forward to how it measures up. The author wrote so seamlessly transitioning between the moments before and during a horrific tragedy and Edward's life afterwards. In many ways Edward is living a life so tangled with becoming a teenager without out his family, survivor's guilt and moving in with his aunt & uncle in a new city. The amount of anxiety one would have in that time seems unimaginable! But the author tells his story and shows how the love around you can help you through even a tangled mess as that of Edward.
I really wanted to love this book more than I did - I had it on my "to read" shelf for a long time with high anticipation.
I think the story will certainly resonate with many (and obviously has), for me the disconnect came with the subject matter being so profoundly sad and yet not really being able to feel any of the grief through the storytelling. The characters, the plot, everything felt a bit hollow and it was really hard to get through it - especially knowing I was supposed to be feeling tugged loose at every strand of my heart, but not feeling remotely close to that.
