Dark Harmony (The Bargainer, 4)

From bestselling indie author Laura Thalassa comes the newly revised and edited final book in her smash-hit dark fantasy romance between a siren and the "bargainer" she owes countless favors to.

There are worse things than death. Things that lurk in the shadows and slip into dreams. Things that once slept...but have now awakened.

For Callypso Lillis, the fae magic that now runs through her veins is equal parts curse and good fortune. While it bonds her to Desmond Flynn, her soulmate and the King of Night, it also leaves her newly vulnerable to the Thief of Souls, who wants to break the Otherworld...and Callie along with it.

But it's not just the Thief whose shadow looms over the fae realms. Des's father, the previous King of Night, has returned from the dead, and he wants revenge on the son who sent him to the grave in the first place.

Time is running out to track down both enemies and stop their plans from unfolding. Callie and Des race across realms, gathering clues and unraveling secrets, but fate and chaos are catching up to them. If they can't find a way to stop the forces working to tear them and their kingdom apart, they risk not just their lives, but the lives of all fairies...and unfortunately for them, death is no longer the worst outcome.

Dark Harmony, the latest installment in Laura Thalassa's captivating series, offers a blend of romance and suspense that holds promise, though it deviates from some of the elements that have made the series so engaging. A significant portion of this book sees Dez and Callie separated, a shift that I felt throughout my reading. Their dynamic, typically a highlight, was sorely missed and left a void that the rest of the narrative struggled to fill.

The conclusion of the storyline involving the thief, intended to be the climax, unfortunately, felt somewhat anticlimactic. It lacked the intensity and satisfaction that a finale might typically deliver, which was a bit of a letdown considering the buildup over previous books.

Despite these points, the book retains the charm and intrigue that fans of Thalassa appreciate. The prose is lovely, and there are enough twists and turns to keep the pages turning. Moreover, the ending delivers a sweet, unexpected twist that somewhat compensates for earlier disappointments. This surprise adds a layer of depth and satisfaction, offering a new dimension to the ongoing story and rekindling excitement for what’s to come.

I'm getting a tattoo for this series. It's one of my top favorites of all time. The bond with these characters. The mystery. The slow burn. The back story. It's all so good

The plot had dark themes to it. The writing is light airy, sometimes it feels like the characters are talking on top of each other. Callie's growth is a major theme, which I love a strong FMC. There is spice, but there is also a love story playing out as well. I enjoyed the conclusion to the bargainer series.
