Bewitched (The Bewitched Series, 1)

From bestselling indie author and TikTok favorite Laura Thalassa comes a witch fantasy set in the world of the Bargainer series.

At age twenty, Selene Bowers desperately hopes to be accepted into Henbane Coven, an academy for young witches. Since one of the requirements for entry is to connect with her powers via a quest through the wilderness, Selene books a trip to South America. When a nefarious supernatural force tries to drag her plane from the sky, Selene's magic awakens to save her life--at a cost. Using her powers devours her memories, one by one.

Worse, when Selene braves the jungle and discovers the source of the attack, she finds herself awakening an ancient evil, Memnon the Cursed, who mistakes Selene for his long-dead wife. The wife who betrayed him. Selene manages to escape and begin her studies at Henbane, but when Memnon turns up at the coven and witches are found dead across campus, Selene becomes entangled in a dangerous plot. Accused of the murders on the basis of her memory loss, Selene must rely on Memnon's help for answers--and his plans for her will change everything.

This is absolutely a guilty pleasure for me. I read this book in one sitting, and I ate it up.

I love Selene. What is a witch without her magic? It's not even a question for Selene not to use her magic despite what it costs her. Despite her acceptance of losing enormous pieces of herself, she does not wallow in self-pity. She is determined and resilient.

I was slightly confused after she met with the coven. A monumental task was thrust upon her and seemed to happen extremely quickly, plus the addition of Memnon. I would have expected those tasks to take some time; however, as I said, it's 100% a guilty pleasure, so I overlooked it.

Memnon is a roller coaster. I wanted to simultaneously love him and punch him, just like Selene. There are some twists I did not expect, AND THAT ENDING. THE GASP I GUSPED

Definitely a cliffhanger at the end, really good, just a couple plot holes.

One of those books that hooks you in right from the beginning! There were a lot of times where I laughed out loud and literally could not put the book down

Selene and all her bad decisions, that lead to more bad decisions. Memnon and all is vengeance, at least he is true to self. It is set in the same world as the bargainer series. It is the same writing style, if you didn't like that series your likely not, going to love this either. There is dark currents to her stories stories. I enjoyed the mess, and Selene doesn't bother me we can give her space to be young and dumb. There are no minor characters that stand out, or even make the story impactful. Sometimes I think this author over looks the usage of a good minor character outside of space fillers. If morally gray to morally black MMC's arent your thing. I dont think this will be for you. I thought the twist was amusing(keep in mind this is fantasy, not real life). I plan or reading the 2nd book but I am really looking forward to the prequel that comes out in 2025...cause I NEED ANSWERS!
