Rebuilding her life in Fairwyck after her husband’s betrayal, Liv is slowly coming to terms with her own and her children’s paranormal abilities and reconnecting with her relatives. Slow to trust, especially around finances, she has misgivings about her business partner’s plans to fast track renovations on the Fairwyck theater, especially when rumors of a curse come to light. When an actress dies during rehearsals, it appears the curse has struck again. Liv is determined to use her ghost tracking abilities to unravel the curse and save the theater and her newfound stability. But betrayal and treachery stalk her investigation and danger is closer than she knows.
The second book in Felicity Green’s Ghost Photographer series is a nicely layered mystery with a relatable heroine. Liv’s struggles with trust ring true to anyone who has dealt with betrayal. Her relationship with her children feels genuine as she tries to balance protecting them and letting them explore their gifts. I really like how the powers of the Seven witches are portrayed and how each contributes to solving the case. I also like that Liv has shared her abilities with some of her mundane friends, rather than trying to hide it. There’s enough backstory for newcomers to the series to jump in without feeling lost, though reading book one absolutely gives you more connection to these characters. There are plenty of twists to the mystery to keep you guessing and a rather ingenious method involved. There’s also a teaser for the next book that looks to be very intriguing.
