Rated a 10/10 because this plot was so thick it was crazy. Never had a book make me cry and laugh in the same breath.

Are you a big fan of dark romances? Praise? BDSM? Degradation? Morally grey (black?) men?! Spice?! If so, STOP! Put whatever you’re reading down and go read this book right now!

But wait!! Before you go read Carnage, please check the trigger warnings!! There is a LOT of them!

This book had me in a chokehold…My brain has whiplash from all the twists and turns and connections that surface. Carnage is a standalone book BUT I do recommend you reading the other L.O.R.D.S books beforehand as there are characters and scenes/storylines that crossover. I had to pause around 25% and go back and reread parts of The Sacrifice to refresh my brain on what we already know about Saint and Ashtyn. This definitely helped me connect a few dots. I highlighted probably 1/3 of the book as I was trying to play detective and figure out what the hell was actually happening...The first half of the book was set in the past, and explained how the Spade brothers came to be, Saint’s initiation, a bit of Ashtyn’s background/vow ceremony, etc. Part 2 jumps ahead to the “present” which is set shortly after the events that took place in The Sacrifice. Once again, you don’t HAVE to read the other L.O.R.D books, but it will enhance your reading experience of Carnage in my opinion. I enjoyed reading part 2 a lot more than I did part 1. I went on an emotional rollercoaster while reading the last 30% of the book but I thoroughly enjoyed it, (even when I wanted to through my phone across the room a few times)! The story did wrap up but I’m still left with a few questions, but maybe Shantel will answer them in future books. Too much happened throughout the book to go into details without giving spoilers away. So sit back, and just enjoy the ride.

I don’t know where Shantel gets her ideas for these books, but I’m here for it and I’m already excited for the next book set in this world!

Thank you to Shantel and Candi Kane PR for sending me an arc of this book in exchange for my honest opinion of it. All thoughts are my own!

The book seemed to drag at times and was slow in parts. There also wasn't a lot of character development. I am honestly looking forward to reading Haidyn's book - I have never been more interested in a 'side' character than Haidyn!

If you're looking for an entertaining read, this book is great! If you're looking for depth, meh, I am not so sure; maybe once we get to Haidyn's book and get a peak behind that curtain, I will change my tune.
