From small-town West Virginia to upscale California, and from downtown Boston to rural Texas, the two hunters collide in an annual game of blood and suffering, one that pits them against the most dangerous monsters in the country.

But as their friendship develops into something more, the restless ghosts left in their wake are only a few steps behind, ready to claim more than just their newfound love.

Can Rowan and Sloane dig themselves out of a game of graves?
Or have they finally met their match?

I didn't know what to expect with this book, but was nothing like what people said it was. Im sorry the ice cream thing was lame. Dont get me wrong its gross, but it never once made me not want to eat ice cream. I cant do stuff with eyeballs, so I had to skip over those sections.

Ok, this is a tough review to write because this book was recommended to me by a a bunch of people, a few of whom have opinions I really trust. So I tried, guys. I REALLY TRIED. I tried for the friends and patrons I did not want to let down, and I even tried for myself because I was so hyped up for this book. I tried for 159 pages before I said: "I can try no more. In fact, I don't even want to make it to a nice even 160."

I saw another review here that said this fails as a romance and as a horror book and I muttered "girl, I agree with you." The romance was stalled for reasons I did not understand...why is no one making a move here? The gruesomeness was more shock-factor than truly horrifying (I want to be creeped out, not grossed out) and the pacing was just. not. it. How many years passed? 2? 5? 100? I will never know because I could NOT keep track and I just couldn't pretend I was interested any longer.

I was expecting something darker for a novel about serial killers. The writing was poor from many standpoints - attempts at humor were too forced, inconsistent characterization, strange world building. The lackadaisical approach to the serial killer aspect to put the romance at the forefront made it very, very boring and a bit nonsensical because they come off as very bad hobbyists that never grew out of their teen angst who couldn't succesfully shoplift in a Walmart instead of deeply disturbed grown humans who have eluded the FBI for over a decade. I also wasn't a fan of the MFC and MMC relstionship dynamic as it shift between killers, friends, and lovers. All of Sloane's believeability as an independent and violent woman washed away completely with Rowan who was overly doting to the point of misogyny. During the s*x scenes, I felt like I was reading a completely different book with very different characters. I read all the way through for book club, but didn't bother with the bonus chapter or the preview of the next book. I was glad for it to be over.
