Broken Bonds (The Bonds that Tie)

After the death of my mother and her Bonded, I was relieved to find my own Bonds. I was sure everything would be okay if I had them. It wasn't. The fate of our people is in my hands and I know we're better off if I'm alone. After five years on the run, I'm caught and dragged back to face the men I ran away from. I thought I was doing the right thing. Now, I'm not so sure. North, Nox, Gryphon, Atlas, and Gabe may never forgive me but one thing is for sure. I won't ever forgive myself.

Super easy to get into with lots of nods to the fmc becoming a strong intriguing character. This is equal parts the FMC's coming of age story along with the beginnings of a great enemies to lovers story. There is no spice in this book but it was a fast read and didn't feel like it was lacking in any area. I loved it! Not a wild amount of world building but sometimes that's nice to just focus on the characters, especially when we have a RH group of 6 to learn about along with other RH friend groups. Excited to start the next book immediately!

Took a little while to get going, but it's a long series so this was a great way to set up the rest of the books.

The series is a great read. It is a dark romance, but it was a great story.

Condensing the series to 3 or 4 books would have been more fitting than stretching it to 6 books.

The female main character (FMC) dedicates excessive time to introspection, repeatedly revisiting the same concerns. It gets very tiresome to read. Additionally, the character development displays inconsistency as they waver in their decisions. Hence, the series had ample room to be condensed into 3-4 books; numerous chapters and the constant back-and-forth seemed more like filler content.

Regarding the overarching plot and character dynamics , I like this series! The distinct portrayal of each male character is impressive, each maintaining unique relationships and needs with the FMC. I commend the author for skillfully preserving these dynamics consistently throughout the entire series.

So it wasn’t all that. The good stuff doesn’t start happening until the end of the book but it was good enough for me to want to listen to the second book.
