Black Ties and White Lies: Illustrated Edition

Life is never black and white.

One minute you're a struggling graphic designer in LA that's finally coming to terms with being single forever, and the next you're flying to New York in a private jet to get engaged to your ex-boyfriend's older brother.

At least...that's what everyone thinks.

Forced to clean up his playboy image in order to protect his company, Beckham Sinclair, the city's most eligible billionaire bachelor, wants me to be his fake fiancée and personal assistant.

Now I'm spending every spare second with a man I thought I'd never see again.

My freshly mended heart has barely recovered from the first time a Sinclair broke it. But with each passing day, Beck's dirty mouth and lingering stares make me question his motives-and mine.

As the line blurs between real and pretend, only one thing is certain: there are secrets hiding in this city full of black ties and white lies.

Black Ties and White Lies is a billionaire, fake relationship, forced proximity, and ex's older brother novel and a complete standalone by Kat Singleton.

“Margot is dating her boss. Margot is dating her ex-boyfriend’s brother. Margot is dating her future fake fiancé…When one brother breaks your heart, [date] the other one and get engaged to him as payback.” Beckham Sinclair is a billionaire bachelor, the guy who dates models, actresses and heiresses. But when his brother cheats on his girlfriend, “I’d do whatever it took to make her mine. While my methods were rather unconventional, I can’t regret a single one of my choices. Who knew what would’ve happened if she actually did pick up my phone calls. If I didn’t have to resort to leaking information about my dating history and forcing myself into her life as her boss, I don’t know if we’d be where we are now.” “Our first kiss felt like a promise of the possibility of more. This kiss is a promise of forever…I wondered if I’d ever have a present with her. I tried not to be too hopeful for a future. But now, that’s exactly what we have…I’ll buy you a million rings until you find the perfect one if it means you’re mine to love forever.” Margot is moments away from coming face to face with her ex’s parents only to tell them she’s now engaged to their other son. “There’s just one minor issue. It’s not just Beck’s mom and dad at the table. We won’t be announcing our engagement face to face with only his parents. We’ll also be announcing it to Carter—my ex-boyfriend and Beck’s brother.” But when his brother reveals the revenge behind the ring on Margot’s finger, Beck wonders, “What if she can’t get past the lies I told her to get her here? I’d thought I was telling small white lies that wouldn’t make a difference, but white lie after white lie has piled up. What if that isn’t something she’ll get past?” Love “shouldn’t be based on a lie.” What are the lengths he’d take for love?

This book wasn’t all that, but I still loved it. It was predictable, cheesy, and had every trope I eat up. If a man truly wanted to, he would!! Beckham Sinclair—the man you are!!! He literally bought the entire company Margo worked at just so she’d have no choice but to talk to him because she was ignoring his calls. He created a fake news article just to convince her to be his fake fiancée as a way to clean up his image, but let’s be real—he only did it because he’s been in love with her from the moment he first laid eyes on her.

And let’s talk about how perfect he is. The man cooks, he spoils her, and he literally turned a room in his apartment into an art studio just for her. Like, find me a man who actually supports your dreams like that. He never once tried to change her—he just loved her for exactly who she was. I need a Beckham Sinclair in my life immediately.

But frick Carter. He should have stayed gone after the breakup. Like, how do you cheat on Margo—the most amazing woman ever—throughout their entire relationship and then still have the audacity to think he had a chance at winning her back?? Make it make sense, lol.

So yeah, was it predictable? Yes. Was it kinda ridiculous? Absolutely. Did I devour every second of it? Without question.
