I definitely felt like this was a good read. As you go through the journey with Tabitha Walker you may find some very relatable moments if not with her you may have with her friends, or family. As a black woman we go through so much and in this book she definitely calls the roll with issues as you go through the book. Looking forward to completing these series.
It took me over a month to read this book, and not out of lack of consistency, but out of boredom. The title draws you in for sure but In the beginning I felt it took so long to reach the plot and get intriguing. SPOILER ALERT: it actually wasn’t until her first fight with Marc that I remotely even felt connected with Tabitha. I felt like finally this a black woman who stands up for herself and her boundaries. Towards the end there were a lot of fillers even the fights and issues with her friends just seemed a little unwarranted. These are thirty+ year old women not twenty year olds who can just fall out because of any thing. I also can’t say i’m surprised at the way it ended and with what happened to her grandmother. I feel like the entire story led us to that, we learned about her illness , we saw the tale signs of her diagnosis with her feet swelling, I just found the ending to be completely cliché. I know it’s to show us the importance of time and the things that should matter but Tabitha saw her grandmother faithfully every saturday and then the one time she doesn’t, she’s gone ? It was a bit much. The last sentence at the end of the book will be what gets me to read the next one in the series.
Like many black girls, Tabitha Walker plans to have it all. But also like most black girls, life has a way of saying, not quite. Tabitha finds herself at a crossroad with her family, her love life and her career. It is enough to make anyone exhausted, but especially us black girls.
I really felt seen at times while reading this book. As women we often take on everyone's burdens, but it hits different when you are a black woman and it is more expected. I appreciated the support system Tabitha had with her friends and her grandmother. I will say it starts slow but I enjoyed it by the end. It wasn't my favorite book this year, but I would finish the series.
