Before I Do

By Sophie Cousens

A heartwarming and playful novel about the ones we love and the ones we lose by the New York Times bestselling author of This Time Next Year

What would you do if 'the one that got away' turned up the night before your wedding?

Head-in-the-stars Audrey is about to marry down-to-earth Josh. Though they are polar opposites, they have a healthy, stable relationship; Josh is just what Audrey needs. But romance should be unpredictable and full of fireworks, and as the big day approaches, Audrey’s found herself wondering if Josh really is "The One."

So, when Josh’s sister shows up to the rehearsal dinner with Fred, Audrey’s "What If? guy"—the man she met six years ago and had one amazing day with—Audrey finds herself torn. Surely Fred’s appearance the night before she is due to get married can’t be a coincidence. And when everything that could go wrong with the wedding starts to go wrong, Audrey has to ask herself: Is fate trying to stop her from making a huge mistake? Or does destiny just have a really twisty sense of humor?

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 out of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book has all the ingredients for a rom com that I generally would love! Interesting story line, fun characters, unique concept, all that.

There was something about this one that just didn’t hit it for me the way I hoped it would, which bums me out. Not saying this was a bad book at all, I definitely say read it and give it a try. I can’t quite put my finger on what it was that was, for lack of words, off-putting about how everything came together… I don’t know. It’s definitely for its moments of cuteness and fun and all that. Maybe it was the time jumping back and forth between Audrey’s last and the wedding and the way it was executed that left me wanting more and maybe expecting something slightly different from what I got. Overall, left me wanting more!

Thanks NetGalley for the free ARC of this book.

The premise was exciting, but I struggled getting through this book.
Audrey is a difficult character to read. She has no real goals, and just seems to float along being pushed by everyone.

Clara and Hillary were infinitely more interesting.

And the time shifts are mind boggling. It doesn’t just go back to one time, it goes back to a different one every time and each one gets to the point so slowly.

It was a rough read, but if you like the “mystery man stops wedding” trope maybe this will be for you!
