Poignant YA book about the deportation of Lithuanians by Stalin at the end of WW II. Not nearly as well written as Salt to the Sea which I read first. Overall I enjoy her writing and would continue to read her books.
Loved this book and like most of her other books, it really opened my eyes to some of the horrible things people experienced being deported by Stalin. It was interesting to see the different perspectives the characters had. Lina and Jonas’ mother held together the whole group and made their connection so much stronger. The only thing that makes this book not a 10 is the ending. I teared up because I really wanted to learn exactly how they ended up escaping Siberia and we never were told that. Also, we never discovered if the guards were telling the truth about Kostas or not.
