What a book!!! If you read this you will remember these characters for a VERY long time!!! It follows the life of Patch and his childhood friend Saint as they grow up in their lives. And what lives they lead!! Patch comes from a single home and a mother who wants to be there, but has her problems and Patch takes care of her. He is not accepted by most and finds a friend in Saint, who is also a loner. As things happen to both in life, they remain friends, but it is sketchy. But one thing is they love each other no matter what life throws at them!! You WILL NOT be disappointed!!!
This compelling coming-of-age novel powerfully illustrates how a traumatic event can fracture a life and ripple through the lives of loved ones. Although the writing style took some time to adjust to, I quickly found myself immersed in the author's unique narrative approach after just a few chapters.
Such a slow start I almost didn't finish.
Stuck with it though and really enjoyed the quotes & character development over generations.
I would recommend it to others but with a caveat that it is slow paced w/ heavy emotions, complex characters, a meandering plot w/ focus on the lingering trauma of the characters. It's a deeply emotional story that requires a lot of commitment to follow and fully engage with but enjoyable story.
