About St. Augustine Silent Book Club
Silent Book Club (SBC) is the ultimate way to read alone...with other people!!! We're different from other book clubs in that there is no assigned reading: everybody brings a different book of their choosing! But when we gather together, each person has the opportunity to see the other books people are reading (maybe even books you would never have considered reading!), and hear what the readers think about their books - personal book recommendations (and some anti-recommendations😬)!! We hope you'll come to a SBC meeting and fall in love with it like we have; and then come to more!! ❤️📖
Why You’ll Love It:
- Zero Homework: There is no assigned reading. Whether you’re into spicy romance, dense textbooks, or even audiobooks (with your headphones!), if it’s a book, it counts.🎒
- How It's Done: We plan a 2 hour get-together. The first 30 minutes is used for gathering, finding a seat, ordering food or beverage (if you would like), and socializing (if you would like!). The 1 hour in the middle is used for SILENT reading. At the end of the hour of reading, we take a picture of all the books brought to read. 📚 During the last 30 minutes, attendees can chat, continue reading, or get-up-and-go...whatever their heart desires! We even periodically have audiobook walks!🎧🚶🏼♀️
- The "Quiet" Magic: Friends and strangers meet up at local cafes☕, bars🍷, restaurants🍝, or even the beach⛱️ to dive into one hour of blissful, sustained silence. We're not in quiet locations, but we do ask that all SBC attendees respect the silence. Disruption of the designated "quiet hour" is considered a breach of community etiquette.🤫
- Please RSVP: We don't require an RSVP, but it is nice to know how many people to expect. Some places we visit are on the smaller side. At every event, seating is "first come, first served." ✔️
- Support Local: Events are free and usually held at local businesses, so you can grab a coffee or a snack (if you would like!) to enjoy while you get your reading done.🗾🦁
