About Read the American Classics

Join our club to read three of 35 works of American literature—books that define a nation. In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States, HarperCollins is proud to present this library of American classics drawn from our storied catalog. Whether you’re re-reading or discovering these classics for the first time, this is a group to connect with others and discuss the books that have stood the test of time.

May's book selection is The Scarlett Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne.

As with the May selection, the June, and July selections will be determined through club polling, and all members are eligible to participate in the vote.

We will host all book discussions on our message board, and our July read will also have a live virtual club meeting.

**How to participate**

We're an ONLINE club that asynchronously discusses all books via the club message board.

  1. Pick up a copy of the book we're currently reading and get started! (See "Meetings" for current and upcoming books).
  2. Head over to "Club Messages" on the left to join in on the conversation! We don't have set meeting times, so the "meeting date" is the deadline for participating in the discussion on the current read.

By joining this club you agree to receive communications about books, contests/giveaways, and more from the club hosts and sponsors, American Classics and Mariner Books, imprints of HarperCollins.
