About Page-Turners Society: Or Monsters, Mysteries, Cowboys, Crimes and Spies

Welcome to the Page-Turners Society, your new favorite escape into fiction’s most gripping corners. Hosted through the Cumberland County Public Library, this monthly book club celebrates stories that thrill, unsettle, and intrigue, from noir mysteries and supernatural horror to historical espionage and literary suspense. If you love tales packed with unforgettable characters, unexpected twists, and themes that linger long after the last page, you’re in the right place.

We meet on the third Monday of every month from 4:30–5:30 pm EDT, and each discussion features a carefully selected novel that fits our rotating themes.

We’re kicking things off in September with Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll, a chilling, razor-sharp novel inspired by true events that explores the trauma and aftermath of violence through the eyes of two unforgettable women. Whether you've finished the book or are just cracking it open, all are welcome.

Future selections include titles like Transcription by Kate Atkinson, The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen, The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones, Velvet Was the Night by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey, and Razorblade Tears by S.A. Cosby.

To broaden our storytelling horizons, graphic novels will also be featured as optional companion reads throughout the year. These visual narratives will align with our monthly themes and offer fresh ways to experience suspense, mystery, and drama, perfect for readers who enjoy a different format or want to deepen their engagement with the genre. I Know What I Am: The Life and Times of Artemisia Gentileschi by Gina Siciliano has been added as a recommended graphic novel companion to Bright Young Women for September. It is strictly optional, but highly recommended if you're interested.

The reading list is set through the end of the year, with each month exploring a new theme, but reader suggestions are always welcome!

If you're local to the Fayetteville, NC area, copies of this month's book will be available to check out at the East Regional Library.

Come for the stories. Stay for the conversation. Let’s turn some pages together.
