Not Her First Quest: A Romantasy Book Club

This is a book club for women 30 and older who love Romantasy but are tired of every heroine being 19. We read fantasy romance starring adults. They have real histories, real baggage, and a lot more to say than “I’ve never felt this way before.”

What we read

• Romantasy with a female main character in her 30s+ and a love interest in his late 20s or 30s
• Standalones where we can find them
• Mostly books rated 4+ on Goodreads, with the occasional 3-to-4 range pick
• Members suggest titles, and we choose together

When and where

We meet once a month, in person, in west Madison. Venue and day of the week can change. Expect good snacks, and zero pressure to have finished the book (though we hope you did).

Who it’s for

Women 30+ who want to talk about fantasy, romance, and everything that happens between the two. You don’t need to be an expert, just curious and kind.

Club participation guidelines

• Commitment: Attend at least once every 4 months. We want a group that actually knows each other, so please join only if that works for your life.
• Let us know: RSVP before each meeting so we can plan seating and snacks.
• Be respectful: Every opinion about a book is welcome. No put-downs of people or their taste.
• Spoilers: Spoilers are fair game at meetings, but keep them out of the group chat before we’ve met.
• Spice happens: Many romantasy books include steamy scenes so you'll need to have a tolerance level for that.
• Come ready: Read as much as you can, and bring a favorite quote, a hot take, or a question. Everyone will have a chance to share their thoughts.
