About I'm Sure It's Owl True - Critical Thinking Book Club
We read non-fiction books that teach us interesting things. We enjoy science, history, skepticism, politics, current events, psychology, debunking alternative beliefs, and more. In a world gone mad, we enjoy talking to people that think evidence and fact checking matter. If that sounds like you, come join us! We'd love to have you.
We started in July 2021 as a way to find community during the pandemic. The original members were all fans of "Oh No Ross and Carrie" (ONRAC), a podcast where Ross and Carrie would personally investigate everything from Scientology to ear candling to UFO conferences and report on their experiences. "I'm sure it's all true" became an oft-repeated sarcastic tagline. In reference to how often owls seemed to come up in supernatural sightings, they'd sometimes say "I'm sure it's owl true." We took that for our name and dedicated ourselves to working through the hosts' list of recommended books, one month at a time.
The podcast ended, but the book club did not. Now we make our own recommendations of books we think the group would find interesting. We're always ready to learn something new - as long as it's based on facts.
We generally meet on the second Sunday of each month over Zoom. Our meetings are usually small. The Facebook group is the best way to keep in touch with us, as the bookclubs.com listing is only used to attract new members. https://facebook.com/groups/178787300827133
