World of Trouble: The Last Policeman Book III (The Last Policeman Trilogy)

“A genre-defying blend of crime writing and science fiction.”—Alexandra Alter, The New York Times
The explosive final installment in the Edgar® Award winning Last Policeman series.
With the doomsday asteroid looming, Detective Hank Palace has found sanctuary in the woods of New England, secure in a well-stocked safe house with other onetime members of the Concord police force. But with time ticking away before the asteroid makes landfall, Hank’s safety is only relative, and his only relative—his sister Nico—isn’t safe. Soon, it’s clear that there’s more than one earth-shattering revelation on the horizon, and it’s up to Hank to solve the puzzle before time runs out...for everyone.

Last policeman Book 3
So it's the end of the world and your
Looking for your rather deranged sister,Nico, you obviously take your dog with you from a loving home that it is in. Now your dog is dirty with a limp and a cough! Doesn't exactly endear you to Hank the main character.
Hank has now hooked up with the criminal Cortez who we met in book 2, who is a very likeable companion. Traveling to find Nico they come across a sealed underground shelter they also find a woman with the throat slit, rescuing her they bring her to the police station they are staying in and manage to keep her stable.
With only a couple weeks till the meteorite hits, Hank sets about solving the mystery of what has happened to the girl what is in the underground shelter and where is his sister.
I enjoyed the novel but I didn't love it there was something lacking for me which was probably my fault as the reader or maybe my hopes were too high. SPOILER IN NEXT SENTENCE!!! When he finally finds Nico's dead body I didn't care her character had to me been reckless throughout and therefore I felt he was in some respect better off as from the flash backs and her previous behaviour, she would never have changed anyway. Also Hank never truly seemed surprised she was dead or grieve strongly he had after all left everything behind for her including at this point Houdini. But there was a resolve of sorts at the end and even though I would have liked some narrative about the impact of the meteorite this is a minor quibble as to what was an enjoyable trilogy.
