Wolfhunter River

An Amazon Charts, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestseller.

She can't ignore a cry for help. But in this remote hunting town, it's open season.

Gwen Proctor escaped her serial-killer husband and saved her family. What she can't seem to outrun is his notoriety. Or the sick internet vigilantes still seeking to avenge his crimes. For Gwen, hiding isn't an option. Not when her only mission is to create a normal life for her kids.

But now, a threatened woman has reached out. Marlene Crockett, from the remote town of Wolfhunter, is panicked for herself and her daughter. When Gwen arrives in the small, isolated rural community, Marlene is already dead--her own daughter blamed for the murder. Except that's not the person Marlene feared at all. And Gwen isn't leaving until she finds out who that was.

But it may already be too late. A trap has been set. And it's poised to snap shut on everyone Gwen loves. Her stalkers are closing in. And in a town as dark as Wolfhunter, it's so easy for them to hide...

After the intensity of Killman Creek, dove right into Wolfhunter River and once again, Rachel Caine delivered. This book continues Gwen's journey as she tries to reclaim a sense of normalcy, though trouble seems to follow her no matter where she goes. It's hard to talk about Wolfhunter River without revealing too much, but the shift in tone is noticeable it's less about Gwen running from her past and more about confronting the darkness that seems to exist in plain sight. The story explores a new mystery involving a small, secretive town and the people crying out for help within it. Gwen, of course, can't ignore those cries, especially when the dangers start to threaten her own family again. The way Caine blends small-town secrets, social media frenzy, and trauma recovery is chilling and real. The stakes feel just as high, even though the danger looks a little different than in the first two books. If you've followed Gwen this far, you won't want to miss this next chapter. Wolfhunter River is both a continuation and a new kind of horror not from the past, but from the present and the people who hide behind polite society.

I thought of this book, and I'm assuming the next two books will be the same, as a companion novel to the first two books. I’d suggest reading this series as a duology, but then continuing if you love the characters. There are some loose ends in the first two books that this one explores, but overall, those details could be been added to the end of the second book.
