Whispers of the Elderoak (Daughter of the Earth)

Magic. Monsters. War.

A woman's journey to find herself as she discovers secrets of the past.

When thirty-two-year-old Ava Winslow inherits a flower farm from her late grandfather's estate, she's determined to uncover the secrets she knew her family was hiding.

As she draws closer to the truth, the last thing she expects to find is a portal hidden on the property leading to another world. Desperate to learn what her mother never revealed before her death, Ava is thrust into a magical land of fae on the brink of war.

Alone again in a world unfamiliar to her and plagued by the grief that followed her there, she must make a life-altering decision; does she try to find her way back to the farm? Or, does she embrace adventures she only ever dreamt of, and follow a new path that might feel more like home than anywhere ever has?

Overall, it was good. The tone switch from the first part where she’s in the human realm to the fae world was kinda jarring. The tone and the themes that were presented didn’t mess well but it did get sorted out. I did find that it felt like the author got ahead of themselves and it felt like they were forgetting what was happening or what information they have/haven’t shared. Ex. Ava and her friend ran into the house, away from a monster, and Ava goes, ‘you better stay here overnight because it’s too dangerous.’ and then a couple pages later, the friend goes, ‘oh, it’s past midnight, I better get home.’ My favourite quote: “Though he wore armour, it was obvious that he was rippling with muscles as he stopped and crossed his arms.” what do you mean it was obvious?? Genre: Romantasy ✨️ Magic: yes 🌶 Spice level: low Setting: modern day(assuming USA)/Eorthan (fae setting) 📚Book 1 of 3 Method of reading: ebook Rating: 3.5/5 Vibe: hallmark turn nightmare turn fairytale Tropes found: - prophecy - evil forces - found family - animal companions - magical worlds Characters: Ave (FMC) 32 years old Casimir (MMC) 100+

Wow just wow.

The world building in this book was absolutely incredible. I felt every scene down to my bones. I loved Ava’s story, even if there were times she irked my last nerve. Casimir though oooof
