Where the Crawdads Sing: Reese's Book Club

A #1 New York Times Best Seller and Reese Witherspoon Book Club pick, Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

I’ll preface this that, unfortunately for me, I’ve had the ending spoiled for me a while ago. But this book was okay. As far as the story, I found it unrealistic that Kya was able to learn how to read and write all based off of a few science books. Not saying it’s impossible, but it did pull me out of the story for a moment. I think I just have a problem with the main character because Kya would continue to hang out with Chase (even though he literally tried having sex with her the first few times they’ve ever met- too forceful for me!). Probably doesn’t help that I didn’t like Chase from the start.

Beautifully written novel. The descriptions make me want to visit North Carolina. Don’t miss this one.

overall, a good read, if you can look past the implausibility of some of it. A couple of times, it felt a little hokey but I still enjoyed the story. Would have given it a 3.5 if that was an option
