*Where He Canât Find You* by Darcy Coates is a captivating read, though it does have a slow start. In the beginning, I found myself asking, "What is the narrator talking about?" It felt like I was wading through a fog, unsure of where the story was heading. However, once everything started to come together, I was completely hooked.
The dynamic between the characters is one of the highlights of the book. I really enjoyed the tight-knit friendship group, especially the bond between the sisters. Their connection felt authentic, and their relationship added an emotional layer to the plot that I really appreciated. It made the stakes feel higher and more personal when the story took some darker turns.
The adults in the story are another intriguing aspectâmany of them seem very checked out, leaving the teens to fend for themselves in a world that feels unfairly burdensome. The pressure put on the younger characters is palpable, and itâs clear that theyâre facing challenges that no one really seems to understand or acknowledge. This added a sense of isolation to the story, making me root for the teens even more as they tried to navigate their complicated lives.
Once the plot picked up, I couldnât stop listening. I ended up listening to the rest of the book while working, as it became one of those stories where I just had to know what happened next. The suspense was intense, and the twists and turns kept me eagerly turning (or listening) until the very end.
Overall, *Where He Canât Find You* is another solid entry from Darcy Coates. While the beginning took some patience, once the story got going, it was an engaging, emotional ride that I didnât want to end. Iâm definitely looking forward to more from Coates in the future!
