Akira’s fear of water makes the journey arduous for her, but Ashleigh’s love and support keep her grounded. Akira makes some monumental decisions regarding both her quest and her relationship with Ashleigh. As they get closer to the stone, Akira senses something changing inside herself. The arrival at the village brings to light the truth behind her quest and some surprising connections to residents in town. Akira’s history of mistreatment and abandonment fuel her fear and anxiety in this new town. Will she find the home and acceptance she craves or will history repeat itself?

Ariana Jade wraps up her Guardian of the Winter Stone series with this book, giving Akira a journey that takes her from horrific abuse to healing and love with a devoted found family. As someone who escaped an abusive background, I definitely saw much of my own reactions in Akira. I’m still on my own healing journey and found hope and inspiration in how Akira’s was handled. The world building and character development throughout the series has been well done and the story has a fitting ending. I especially enjoyed the bonus epilogue set 10 years later that reinforced the happy ending.
