Octavia Grant does it again with her upcoming release, Unhinged! In true Octavia Grant fashion, this book hits the ground running and doesn’t let up. It’s an instant whirlwind of interconnected stories, each more “WTF” than the last. If you’re anything like me, your nosy side will be craving more details about every character and story. It’s a layered, fast-paced read that leaves no room to get bored. You won’t put this one down until you’re finished, I promise!
I can see why Octavia has earned the nickname “Unhinged”. The way she delivers chaos and complexity with finesse is unmatched. Unhinged is no exception, living up to its title and the reputation she’s built.

Readers, there are more trigger warnings than listed in the beginning of this book. I will list them at the end.
Unhinged introduces us to Olivia who is on death row for the murder of her lover's family. Once a well-known author, Olivia also shares a string of stories/anthologies during the interview which are as equally or more so as unhinged as the actions that landed Olivia in prison. The reporter who interviews Olivia seemed to be familiar with other dangerous women in the same or similar prison, but I think it's fair to say she's never met anyone like Olivia and neither have I.
Psychological thrillers attract my attention because I am curious about the activating catalyst that drives the person or persons to think, carry out and be satisfied with what they do to others. I do not believe anyone is born just inherently evil or psychotic. But there is this very fine line that connects our feelings to the stability of our overall mental health. In most people, that manifests into stress, anxiety or depression. In characters like Olivia and the characters and stories she wrote about it manifested into unhinged acts of obsession, possession, revenge and murder. ---By the way, it's not lost on me just how meta and fourth-wall breaking this story is lol. Thought that was a cool part.
Unhinged will not be a book for everyone. And some of the contents in the short stories may be triggering for some. This book doesn't really hold back on anything, further embodying its title. But it does proactively emulate romantic and purely sexual relationships or life-altering encounters that ultimately lead to death. But this book lives up to its name. My rating is affected by the lack of detailed TWs I expected to come across while reading.
Readers can expect these stories to have them thinking: How far would someone go for love? For revenge? For vengeance? Or to stake a claim?

Was truly that, completely and utterly Unhinged. But in a fun, vengeful, don't want none want be none kind of way. The initial story had me speechless!!! People should be honest in relationships or situationships so that innocent people don't get hurt. But hey you reap what you sow in this life and pay back's a (you know the rest). I feel like Mrs. Grant wrote stories of getting revenge on the people who have wronged the characters in her stories and they culprits got their just due in the most horrific ways. Now some we're very, very extreme and may give the faint at heart nightmare's, but Octavia knows how to keep you very entertained and on your toes from beginning to end!!!
